AI safety and regulations kinda suck, but there's also some things you (yes, you) can do about it

Discussion

You've probably already heard a lot about the risk of AI, rushed development and and all that, no need to repeat it. Given the magnitude of all this, one would expect politicians around the world to be frantically working day and night to adapt their countries to this absurdly game-changing technology, but so far, most seem to be kinda... lax at it to say the least. For the most part, this is because many simply don't know about the huge impact and risks, like, they actually barely heard about it.

So that brings me to what you can potentially do about this: just write them

No, I'm not kidding. I actually mean looking up the mail of your local representatives, or any other person or organization that can influence this, and sending them an email. However crazy it sounds it does work when enough people do it, here's an example of how this approach already had some impact in the US. There are even non-profits like Control/AI that make it even easier and faster (if that's even possible) to make your voice heard from the comfort of your home if you live in USA or UK.

Seriously, it's astonishing how little most people in power know about this world-changing technology that has already flooded our daily life, and about the fact a lot of their potential voters are worried about it. "Just telling them" may actually do something in this case.
