AITA for harassing my neighbor’s dog as a kid and not entirely disagreeing with my actions as an adult ?

I told this story to my friend group and the stupid dumb dog lover told me I was a shitty brat for this so I wanted to post here .

I was around middle school age and my neighbor across the street had 3 dogs they mostly kept outside. At the time they lived there as long as I could remember and these things would bark at anything in their line of sight , including me .

I was a kid with basically nothing better to do . I’d finish my homework pretty quick , and i was allowed 1 hour of screen time a day and after that I had 0 means of entertainment nor anyone to talk to . My only option was basically bum around outside my house until dinner and bed .

Back then I was a very angry and , more importantly , EDGY child . So I’m just walking around picking at the bushes or random bugs on the ground or something while the dogs across the street kept barking , and barking , and barking. Eventually the audacity of these CREATURES made something in me snap . I’m already bummed about my lack of control and power over my life , and now these DOGS are trying to take my right to stand on my own property? I took that shit personally. In my middle school headspace if there was no threat a consequence I’d probably try to ice a PERSON for telling me to get out of my own front yard , let alone something less than human .

They wanna bark at me for no reason ? Fine , bark all you want . I spent basically any spare moments I had for hours , months , and a few years just standing there or pacing around purposefully trying to egg those literal BITCHES on . I’d bring snacks and my ds when I could just letting them yap at me for forever , or when the neighbors probably called them in .

One time I got a slingshot and trying flinging inedible and hard berries from this bush at em ( I regret now obviously) and my neighbor came out the front door after a couple hours to yell for my parents because I hit his windows until his wife calmed him down .

They eventually built a wooden fence in front of the mesh fence to block them from seeing outside and I thought I won but somehow they sensed me behind the fucking fence , so I kept doing my thing until they moved away when I was a freshman in high school.

I was never disciplined or scolded for this . My dad never noticed, my mom asked what I was doing outside all that time and I told them and she basically just said “ yeah , dogs just do that “. As an adult I can confirm , yeah , dogs just do that .

While I can look back and realize my actions were pretty ridiculous, I also think my neighbors should’ve disciplined their dog to know when to shut up at least . The other dogs I’ve known in my life weren’t so annoying and persistent .
