Definitive proof that God exists would make faith irrelevant and interfere with our free-will
I've often seen some people ask that why, if God exists, does he not just tell everyone on Earth? I've also seen people criticize the fact that 100% verifiable proof of God's existence simply isn't out there. I think that both of these arguments are erroneous for a few reasons.
Let's do a thought experiment. Say that right now God decided to reveal himself everyone on the planet and tell them that he does indeed exist, or perhaps he just started intervening in humans events in very obvious and irrefutable ways. If he did that, faith would no longer matter. It wouldn't matter if you believed in God or not because it wouldn't be a matter of faith anymore, it'd simply be a fact. Of course, many people would chose not to believe, but just like how some people deny gravity existing, deny evolution, or think the Earth is flat, they'd be wrong. The Christian belief is that God gave us free will. Of course, this includes the freedom to reject God and to not have faith. By outright proving his existence, God would be interfering with our free will. People would make decisions based on compulsion, not faith. Keep in mind, I'm not saying that believers can't or don't feel compelled to do things because of their faith, but that faith is no longer voluntary in this situation. Many people would feel coerced to make the "right" decisions out of fear and / or respect of God. Believers can and do feel this pressure as well, but only because we choose to believe. Faith is a virtue because it requires trust without exact certainly. You should trust that God will always be with you, not because he walked up to you and told you to your face, but because you have faith.
Before you comment, one final point. I'm not making an argument for having blind faith with no evidence. There is a lot of evidence for God's existence, at least I believe so. What I'm talking about here specifically is 100% indisputable evidence that God exists, which could reasonably convince everyone on Earth, whatever said evidence might be. I'd love to discuss why I personally believe in God at some point on here, but that's a very long and more complicated subject than this. Whenever I do tackle that subject I want to be more prepared than I currently am, and also for the sake of argument I want to limit the scope of this discussion.
I ask that the discussion remains respectful and that you don't simply downvote me just because you don't agree with me. I treat others the way I want to be treated and I promise my intention here isn't to demean anyone or attack their beliefs. Thank you and apologies in advance if I don't immediately reply, I am likely going to fall asleep not long after posting this.
