Recommendations for good sound quality?

Looking for a portable (ie smaller than JBL boombox) speaker, used for the occasional outdoor party/kids gathering but mostly used in the house at fairly low volumes. Sound quality is the only concern - I don’t care for features or crazy volume. I’ve tried a JBL Xtreme 4 which I didn’t think was very good. It didn’t feel like a very full or balanced sound. I tried a Soundlink Max but due to the demo mode, couldn’t get it to pair and try with my own music but it was impressive from what I could hear. Tried a Marshall Acton 3 and thought it was good, but bass did seem to drop off drastically whenever you moved away from it.

Not too fussed on budget, ideally under £500 or so but I wouldn’t mind spending more if the speaker was worth it.
