What is our district thinking

Just Smile and Nod Y'all.

There’s 2 elementary schools in our district and one combined middle/high school.

The principal at 1 elementary school eliminated the sped program because he didn’t want to “waste” money on hiring more paras. This is a specialized sped program for students who cannot attend regular classes.

This now means those students will be bused a town over to our school and now triple the size of our program.

Paras just got an email saying that in the next week or so those who will be told that they’re working in that room will receive a call and if they say they don’t want to work in that room or are uncomfortable working there will be fired. Not everyone is comfortable working with violent, non verbal, severely disabled students and should not be forced to do so. So now people desperate to keep their jobs are going to be placed in a situation that they are uncomfortable doing and not able to fully give the student what they need. Why do paras get treated like absolute garbage?
