why do parents treat you better when you're already detached from them?

growing up, my dad used to beat me for reasons i cant remember (i don't remember half of my childhood except from the religious trauma, physical, verbal, sexual, and emotional abuse) but i know i was a good kid. decent grades, not a headache at school, never fought anyone except for my siblings (just normal sibling fight), i never even asked them help about my homeworks or such, just good overall. i remember going to the mall for the 1st time, as a kid, it was exciting but my dad suddenly grab me and threatens to throw me from the 2nd floor for a brief moment, i ran away from him after that and let my mom hold me. that moment i became wary of him, he'd beat me when i refused to attend church or when i asked him if i can cut my hair for summer (it wasnt allowed in our religion). my mom was no different, i remember when she locked me off the bathroom cuz i was crying because im hungry, since then i only eat whenever they called me to (changed when i started high-school lol). id say shes kinder than my dad, but not really good haha. shed say i should kill myself when i inconvenience her, also verbally abuse me when i refused to go to church. she's also emotionally tiring to be with, always complaining. i always hear people say how kind she is (she is as a person, not as a mom) but i just dont see it a her daughter. i cut her off when i was 16 and only reconnected when i was 18.

to be fair, theyre still good, they feed us, clothed us, educate us, but still abusive in some way. i know they sacrificed a lot and im grateful for that but i cant help but get detached from them. i was 17 when i completely stopped attending church (i never believed in the first place) and cut my hair off cuz it got burned by chlorine and i had no choice (i felt free lol). i never believe in our church because their words are misogynistic. my uncle assaulted me when i was 6 and i only got to tell my parents when i was a teen (cant remember what age) because i was so disgusted with my self, but despite of knowing, they didn't do anything about it and even let my assaulter to our home multiple times. since then i really distance myself from them because i felt abandoned and unsafe.

im 19 now, move out at 18 for uni, i can say that we've grown farther apart ever since. i only talk to them when i need money, in which they give and im thankful for that. my aunt sponsors my tuition so its less baggage for them which is good cuz i can limit my interaction with them. they treat me better now, even asks how im doing and if im stressed with my studies. they assure me that they will always be there to help but i dont think ill run to them if i need one. so why? whats changed? why do they treat me better now that i only see them as financial support? why? i dont understand???
