Parvovirus experience
Hello everyone! I am posting this here as I just really need to get this off my chest. I’m just really worried about the health of my dogs and any reassuring kind comments, or successful parvo stories would be really appreciated <3
I woke up to the news that a relative’s dog had recently passed away due to Cardiac Parvovirus. It took a lot for me to process as it was so sudden; It was tragic, considering that he’s only a year and a half old.
I told my sister about the dog’s passing. She then told me, frantically, crying that our Labrador’s stool had small droplets of blood. 4 days prior, our dogs: Shih Tzu (5M) and Labrador (2F) had come into contact with the infection.
They were still eating, drinking, and overall quite energetic, but we couldn’t just risk it. So we then rushed the dogs to the nearest veterinary clinic and had them tested, which both came back negative. The doctor had said that it could be possible that the virus hadn’t been detected yet due to the state of infection in its incubation / earlier stages. He also added that there weren’t any remedy to the virus but can only be fought through strengthening the immune system, and so we were given antibiotics along with supplement vitamins.
As of today, it’s currently Sunday, 4 days after their exposure. After giving them medications, my dog’s (labrador) had gotten firmer but still had small droplets of blood. I had also noticed that her breathing’s gotten a little heavier. As per our Shih Tzu, he has not been showing any symptoms, thankfully. The vet had only given him a shot while our lab recieved 4.
I’m still quite worried with what’s going to come for the next few critical days. I am asking for you guys, to include our dogs in your thoughts and in your prayers, including the deceased family dog of our relative.
Thank you and I hope you guys understand :)
