Loneliness and isolation in Regina

Discussion

Hey all,

One of the best ways to meet people (even as an introvert), stay active, feel a sense of purpose, and not be isolated is to volunteer. I created a website that lists volunteer opportunities in Regina and enables you to sign up to volunteer. The website also lists a ton of other agencies and non-profits and the different social services that they provide.

Backstory: Family and I previously lived in Argyle park and wanted to move. The move coincided with a personal trip planned in advance to visit family out of the country. I had terrible internet connectivity on the trip so I left picking our new house up to dear spouse. Almost no one would give us a place because we ran our own business and didn't have regular paystubs as the business owners. Spouse found a place at the last minute in North Central with a great landlord.

A day after moving in, our door was almost broken down by some guy at like 11 p.m. We called the police but they didn't show. Lived here close to a year now and seen quite a lot happen. I wanted to do something that would make a positive impact and went to see a resource counsellor at the Regina public library. She told me about the loneliness and isolation problem in Regina as a whole and not just North Central.

Seniors get lonely after retiring especially if all the children have left the home, many immigrants have literally no one, and lots of people are just lonely or isolated. Volunteering is a great solution for this and it also helps the community.

I build websites and spent the last hundred million hours getting all this info in one place. Open to ideas for new features. Let me know if something needs to be corrected. Don't know how to get the word out about it but letting you guys know is a start. The website is https://hikana.space (.com wasn't available, I should have used .org, but there was a good deal on .space)
