If you leave the meeting right before they are about to fire you, what happens?

I few of my friends have been laid off and the scenarios are always the same. Random meeting online and they enter with their manager and someone from HR. If the individual leaves right before they can speak because they know that they are about to be fired, what happens? They can’t be fired until they decide to sit at that meeting?
