Is anyone else's life a bit lonely and sad?

Advice Request

Im a 34 year old dad. Our boy turned one a few weeks ago and the first 6 months were pretty rough as my wife suffered with PPD.

Since around 6 months onwards it has gotten a lot better and we love our son to bits.

When i reflect on my actual life though I can't help but feel a little sad and lonely.

For instance, my wife is away for the weekend seeing friends, something I'm really happy for her to do (she wouldn't have dreamed about doing that for the first 8 months or so). So I've been with my son all day and have loved it. Did the bed time routine solo (we always do it joint) and he went off fine.

Since then I had my dinner and been reading a book.

And then I thought 'is this my life on a Saturday night?' (UK based so night time here now!) I have very few friends tbh - probably 2 close friends left and they live in different cities. They both have kids as well similar age to ours and Im lucky if I see them twice a year, sometimes not even that.

We also aren't having a holiday this summer as we think the kid is too young and because we bought a house recently and my wife has been on maternity we are a bit tight for money.

I just feel like I don't have anything to look forward to. I'm not saying I hate my life or I have it terrible but becoming a dad has meant my life is basically work, looking after the family and then free time (which is limited) Is just gym, reading or watching some tv.

I feel like life is just pretty mundane and im only 34, is this really it? Does it get better as the kids get older? Can anyone relate?
