The CGI in “Untamed” on Netflix sucks. I hope they stop using CGI on wildlife like this.

Even in 2025 it looks dated and laughable. It isn’t necessary. For a show that in a large part is about setting the “environment” or “ambiance” of wonderful national parks, mountains, and wildlife… seeing shitty CGI of deer in episode 2 just kills it so hard.

I’m not criticizing the CGI artists, or the current capabilities of CGI. I am criticizing the producer/director for deciding to put this level of CGI into a show. And not just any show. A show that’s whole thing is nature, and showing off the awesome scenery. It just doesn’t make sense. Broke all immersion, and honestly got me a little tiffed that anyone could possibly have thought this was a good usage of CGI. Worse part is it was wholly unnecessary… it was a throw away scene that’s whole point was to show off the beauty of nature… and instead it was shitty CGI. Is shitty CGI supposed to elicit the same wonder and awe of actual nature?

I get it if you need a bear because it’s vital to the story. And maybe you have a limited budget and the bear doesn’t look that great. This isn’t that. This was them trying to “show off” the shitty cgi and use it to elicit wonder and awe of nature. Not only did it fail epicly. It also felt forced, unnecessary, and “soulless corporate” vibes, in a show that is supposed to elicit the opposite.
