First Timer: Arrive Early for Gnome Village Lodging?

Hey all, It's my first Shamb and in sure excited. I've got Gnome Village Shamabalodging and heard it's first come first served. Should I try and get there on Tuesday morning to find a tent that has more shade cover? Also, can I leave and head to work for the day, leaving the tent unattended, and then come back? Thanks!
