(USA) sick + contamination
I love the inconsistency of my stores desire for food safety.
There are many instances I could talk about, but I’m going to talk about specifically calling in sick or not.
There have been many times where I’ve shown up with diarrhea and/or vomiting before and during my shift . Sometimes it’s bad enough to where I get sent home, sometimes they don’t even notice it’s happening so I stay the full shift. Sometimes they know what’s happening, but they’re shortstaffed so they’d rather have someone there than not. I’ve been told before I need to call out if I’m experiencing these symptoms.
So today, I did it. I actually called out. And I waited til the last min (2hrs prior to shift) to see if symptoms were gone. They were not so at 1:50 I called.
Immediately got sent a write up for it. “Unexcused absences”.
So I guess damned if I do, damned if I don’t.
Mind you 3 weeks ago I was given a ride up because I had a drink behind the back computer (the computer is raised so even if the drink spilled, nothing would happen). I had forgotten it was there before I went on break, I have a chair and a cane that I use in the back so on busy days I hide my drink back there so I don’t have to keep trying to get to the break room before the next car pulls to my window. Well, the manager decided she had an issue with that that day and got a write up “we take food safety very seriously”. This manger is known for doing the opposite of that when the gm isn’t around.
I’m so done with this place
