Planning a trip for six people(ages 14-22) what are some things i need to know?

I am planning a trip for my cousins graduation next year. I can hardly find any information on pricing and what it's like being on the train and if we are allowed to get off and explore. I know nothing and it's like all info is buried deep on the internet and hiding from me. If anyone could share their experience that would be great!
