Clearing the Confusion Around Mathematics and Computing (MNC) Branch

Original Content

Hey folks,

After seeing tons of questions (and honestly some pretty misleading answers) about the Mathematics and Computing branch, I thought I'd share my experience as a current MNC student and clear things up a bit.

1."Bhai ye IMSc hai, bekaar hai" - Really? One common statement I've seen is "ye IMSc course hai, bekaar hai." Let's be real-if you look at average placements, the general order is:

CSE/AIML > ECE > EEE ≈ MNC > Mech/Civil

So yeah, it's not CSE, but it's definitely not bad- especially compared to the other core branches.

2.Course Structure: Better than it looks Except CSE, most branches don't directly teach what's asked in tech placements. But in MNC, you still get 30-40% computer science courses (% is lower in initial years), and if you compare the course structure it is easier compared to other branches like ece and eee, you get hell lot of free time.

3.Small dept = Big W One of the best things? We're a small batch (60-65 students). That means: ●You know almost everyone in your year. ●Seniors are accessible and helpful. ●Professors actually know you by name.

This makes stuff like attendance and internal marks way easier to manage.(almost every time i requested prof to increase 3-4 marks it will improve my grade they did, once i got 8/10 even after not giving one quiz, rare but happens sometimes)

4.Department is Trying: People don't notice this, but the department is actually working to make us industry-ready. They're are starting to organizing workshops for us where alumni will take sessions.I dont see any other dept doing this proactively

Conclusion;::::::

If you're stuck choosing between MNC vs Mech/Civil or even EEE, and you're not planning to give GATE: You're not going to regret choosing MNC.

Plus, there's an exit option in 3rd year (helpful if you wanna go for an MBA or other plans)

Good Luck K25s :)
