Code Veronica X was pretty good. It definitely deserves a remake.

Recently picked up a ROG Ally X and it got me in the mood to play some RE games back-and-forth and I decided to play Code Veronica after beating a couple of episodes of Revelations 2. I honestly got hooked on CV instantly. I admit, some design choices rubbed me the wrong way like the impromptu switching that literally deprives you of certain weapons, the backtracking requires some patience and a couple of bosses expecting you to know exactly what to do, but as someone who hasn’t beaten most of the classic RE games, the game wasn’t actually as difficult as people said it was. Also, as much flack as I give RE4 for being too action-oriented, the series was already approaching action movie levels with the cutscenes.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with the game. I’m not sure if I’d call it one of my favorites though, at least not until I see the other classic games through completely. I do think it’s an underrated game in the sense that it’s overshadowed by being on a failing console and not being a numbered title. Capcom really needs to adapt the story to the RE Engine, it’s a more important game than RE3 story-wise.
