Freelancer supplier question

I've only completed one and 2/3 of a campaign in freelancer so I didn't want to risk testing it out, but what happens if you commit a crime in front of a supplier? I know we can't narc them out.

And if we kill them, can we steal their gear but just be punished in some other manner?

And the couriers (or whatever the ones with the merces are called) , I assume they act like any other npc if you commit a crime in front of them but not directly against them

Freelancer really got me clenching my bh over here lol
