Potential autism and nursery

“Is this autism?”

Myself, my partner and nearly all of our family believe my daughter has autism and adhd. We've had a few professionals also comment on this too but they've said they want to see how our daughter settles in nursery before any referrals are made.

My daughter is verbal but she has periods when she mumbles or can't speak. She is constantly fidgeting, eating things she shouldn't be (sand, paper, hand sanitiser) and putting things in her mouth. She really struggles with food for example she will only eat a certain brand of noodles, only eats straight-cut chips, only eats 'perfect' crisps (ones with no blemishes/imperfections) and she refuses anything with a sauce (lasagne, bolognese, stew) and if her food touches a sauce for example ketchup she refuses it. She bites, scratches, hits and kicks and this can be herself or others. She becomes very emotional and overwhelmed and really struggles with loud or unexpected or overlapping noises. She really struggles with sleep- has hated it since I was pregnant.

She's been at a childminders for over a year. They've said sometimes they can 'see it' and other times they can't. They told the professionals that she is the perfect child and they don't have any problems which is different to what they've told me. She will come home from the childminders and hit, kick, scream and cry almost constantly.

I'm hoping that by sending her to nursery she can get some more support or at least point us in the direction for support.

I'm worried about sending her to nursery. I'm worried that she'll be masking for them and then drop the mask when she gets home like she has been doing at the childminders. What do I do if they don't think shes displaying autistic/adhd traits? I spoke to the nursery and they nodded their heads and said they would observe her to see what they think.

I feel like we're stuck at the minute. That everyone just wants to wait and see what shes like as she grows up but I don't want her to have to hide everything about herself and I don't want her to grow up thinking shes a naughty/misbehaving child.

Does this sound like autism? How do I get her the support she needs?
