What can I do in this situation?
I'm on disability in Ontario, I think with the raise we are getting this month my next cheque will be $1060, but I am doing fine due to an inheritance I got, and spent, but it left me above the board with a balanced budget this post isn't about me, it's about a relative
I had a relative who owes me some money break down and basically cry about money, we stopped all her subscriptions to Netflix and prime and stuff like that already, we are going to cut the cable and focus on the wifi for entertainment, I live with her so I'm trying to convince her to cut the expensive ass wifi she has and let me buy the $30 low income wifi you can get from Rogers with an ODSP paperwork, and then she can give me $30 a month, and we will still all have wifi
I got her to tell me she makes $2200 a month, two biweekly paycheque of $1100 but she completely shut down when I started asking what her expenses cost, I know she has this in her list
Car insurance
Gas
Home insurance
Cellphone bill
Wifi
Groceries
Dog food
Property tax
Cigarettes
Beer
Electricity and home gas are paid by her husband who is on old age income, I think he gets about $1000 a month, idk, his money is separate and not included
There is no mortgage but there may be other debt, credit cards maybe, affirm maybe, overdraft maybe
And she told me there is something else that is really bad, but was too afraid to tell me, idk, I'm thinking a payday loan but idk she had a payday loan in the past
I tried to guesstimate her expenses and I figure after everything I listed in the list she has $500 left over, probably more like six or seven
But she is claiming she is underwater badly so I dunno
I don't even know what I'm asking here, unless I can get her to tell me her expenses I can't make a real budget, but any advice? Her and her husband claimed bankruptcy in like 2007 maybe, somewhere around there
I did get her to open a simplii bank account today, to save for the dog vet visits, I'm going to ask her to give me the card, and I'm going to put in $100 in, and I'll get $125 in my account for the referral, and her account will get an extra $50, then I'm going to ask her for $10 every paycheck, and then I will deposit $15 into the account (I'll add $5 every paycheque) and in 12 months there will be a little over $500 to go towards a vet emergency so the dog is somewhat covered at least
I have decided next time she asks me for money, I'm going to flat out refused unless she sits down with me and dwars out a proper budget
Is there anything else I can do?
