SAVE to standard repayment
Looking for thoughts on my loan situation and if I'm missing anything.
I have two separate loans
Loan 1: $82,000, currently with Sofi at a 5% interest rate. In January expected to start $1500/month payments for a 5 year term.
Loan 2: $275,000, currently on SAVE with $0/month but 6.25% interest rate. Interest is going to cost me about $1,500/ month.
I realistically right now have about $3,000/month I can put on loans. My thought is to refinance my loans in SAVE to the standard repayment plan. Estimated through the online calculator it would be $1900/month over the course of 27 years.
Then would refinance the private loans into a longer repayment plan through private banking. 15 year loan term, 5.1% and payment is about $550 a month.
That would total the loan payment each month at $2450 and leave an extra $550 a month to put on principal. I would probably go after the federal first since they have a higher interest.
Beyond 2028 I'm not only expecting a significant raise (an additional $100,000/yr) but also high five figure bonuses each January that I can put large sums on my loans. So I'm really just trying to survive the next 2.5 years!!
