Clutch feel after weird shift
Hi all,
Recently was driving along and had a bunch of birds on the road in front of me while doing about 100kph in 5th. Put the car in neutral and revved it a little in hopes of scaring them away but upon putting it back in 5th it made a strange RPM hop:
- Started off in 2000 as normal
- Jumped to about 3000 while I didn't do anything
- Jumped to about 4000 without me doing anything again.
Happened quite quickly, 2sec max. After the 2nd jump I put the car back in neutral and shifted it to 5th again.
Afterwards the famous barbecue smell of crispy clutch appeared. My theory is I didn't fully engage the clutch. Note: I have a Sachs clutch kit installed.
Now onto current day:
- Smell is completely gone and it shifts perfectly fine. Acceleration seems perfectly good too. Haven't had anything similar to the rpm jumps since. Doesn't slip either.
- The clutch does feel a bit off. As if it doesn't grip as hard as it did. Downshifting (without rev match) and using the engine braking used to feel like it decelerated more. Feels a lot smoother than previously.
Wondering what exactly can cause this change and whether or not I've gotta be worried about an upcoming clutch replacement. Thanks in advance!
