As a healthcare worker who had to go into UK a mental health hospital Id like to tell my story, if thats ok.
So the short small story doesn't exist. im just trying to express how from an nqv4 (UK qualification) only experienced person fell into medical care and had a new respect for nurses.
To start i will openly admit i have CPTSD as per a local psychiatrist I've been talking to for over a year, shes great and tells me when im over thinking, ect. I'm on multiple meds which i can confirm help.
So anyway when i was first admitted I had had a huge verbal fight i created, hurt myself severely, to needing tendon repair. Thiis is when I found nurses who cared. The nurses in the emergency didn't both much becuase they had more serious cases. Someone holding a bandage to their wrist and shy of being near people made it easier to deal with others. When i was seen the triage nurse was sorry they didnt see me for 6 hours, her words where "Your tended is exposed."
I didnt mind because that was my own fault but I knew she kept in mind i was self harming so i was just existing at that point.
when the nurses looked and treated I was treated well but had to stop telling them to stop apologizing. Yws my wrist muscles where outside my body but Id hurt myself, I was not going to die from it, it was me being stupid at the time.
then came in a lady who just sat down next to me and said "Are you ok now?"
I had no idea what she meant but she just sat there and read an nhs leafet. she asked if i needed help to get to the toilet to whitch i didnt at the time, at until i tried to stand up. She helped me get to the door and waited until id finished.
In the Morning she still just looked at me the same and asked if i needed some food and a shower. I rolled over and pretended to ignore her. She was still there. Eventually I asked if i could have some food. No problem, took a bit but food turned up.
She encouraged me to have a shower and then get some more rest.
That was it for the crisis I was going through. I fully understand having 1-1 is expensive and a drain but that lady, who I only know as "Nice night Lady", she managed to keep me safe and ive not harmed since. I still get urges but I just think of her looking over her book when I started to shake a bit and the only thing that helped was a smile, nod and pulling the blanket over me.
