Have you had an endometrial resection? Did it help you?

I'm 46 and have very heavy painful periods which have been getting worse the last two years. My Dr has offered to do an endometrial resection (also know as Transcervical Resection of the Endometrium (TCRE) here in the UK). Interested to hear the experiences of people who chose to have it. Was it painful? Did it help resolve heavy periods? Did you get any longterm complications?
