Importing car from mexico to usa

Hi and thanks to all who respond! I've been reading through a couple posts on the same topic and similar question but i have some additional details to add. I'm currently in Mexico, US citizen, my wife is Mexican. I bought a car here but have not registered it in my name as you have to be a resident to do so. I've been thinking to drive it across the border with the plates it has, I do have insurance and all the proper paperwork saying I've paid for the car, and I have the Mexican version of a signed title more or less, the last owner's vehicle card. What would go into this process? Driving it across the border and then importing and registering it at the dmv? It is speced for USA safety standards and such (it is a 2003 Discovery 2). Thanks!
