What would you consider “post grunge” does grunge not exist anymore?

I was talking to a few friends and all of them had said that Shinedowns first studio album “leave a whisper” was “post grunge”. This doesn’t make any sense to me cause it sounds pretty grunge. Another thing they said was that the music had to be from Seattle which doesn’t make sense to me either because music genres can’t really be limited to a single location can they?
