Opinion on sexuality headcanons in this game?

Discussion

[You dont rlly have to read this part] Not sure what to label this as since it could easily be either a question, discussion or controversial but I did lean more towards "discussion" bc i do not think this is as controversial as a topic (as i hope it is) nor really meant to be a standalone question since I would like to see detailed opinions on this. The last time I tried sharing a controversial take on here the post lit up in flames and i had to mute it immediately so this is my attempt to be more open-minded and open to what other people think while also still sharing my own stance that I probably won't be too-otheriwse-convinced against πŸ˜…

The title is very straightforward. I'm curious to what people think of this phenomenon of seeing other people have specific headcanons towards a dateable's sexuality (not gender headcanons or interpersonal hc).

MY TAKE;

LOGOS (🀫) - imo, I do not understand how people have any consensus other than >all dateables are mspec and poly<. While yes, I do not see it happen very often I just think that logically in a game where every character can be explicitly attracted to you regardless of what you identify as, and regardless of whatever past canonical flings or relationships they've been in themselves, AND how they can continue to be poly with multiple other dateables of different identity as well, having any other hc rather than one that is mspec just doesn't..make much sense? People are allowed to have fun and im not saying the fictional character's feelings matter that much but it still is apparent that to blatantly disregard this aspect of all the dateables in game as rep like this in my opinion is still important to discuss.

If anything this is like the one game/dating sim where you'd think we wouldn't have this problem bc its not often that high quality dating sims are ever this inclusive to that aspect. I've been a fan of the "otome" genre for a while which is basically an opposite to games like these bc these dating sims are solely aimed towards women and mainly tend to include a full cast of male love interests (Love and deepspace is probably the most popular example of this genre to use here despite me personally not being very interested in it.) And i completely understand the aspect of fan content or headcanons that bend the norm of these games since let's say, its not a crime to be male and be a fan of these games or have romantic feelings towards the love interests- even if its impossible to truly romance them in game. BUT for something like date everything I do not see a lot of sense in this since if everyone is Bisexual then, logically everyone wins? But that's just my take.

PATHOS - you don't need to read this part as this only deals with my own interpersonal experience amongst other things so feel free to skip this part, AKA the "no one asked" part 😭. Personally, I've been going as an unlabled sapphic person for a while now as coming to terms with my sexuality has been difficult esp when I get zero play, thus making the deciding factor even harder...you're probably like "why does this matter"?? And I'm mentioning it because i feel like in recent years of fandom culture there has been a weird, how do I say it, distaste? Towards labeling characters as bisexual (hell even in real life esp with current world events there has always been a bit of noticeable disdain towards bisexual people within the -online- queer community. Frequently seeing them subject to the oddest discourse that will have anyone's hair turning Grey).

I have been in so many fanbases where liking m/f ships (those that apply) or anything of the sort is seen as bad bc its equated to both characters being solely heterosexual which can often be annoying. It completely disregards the existence of bisexual people and transhet individuals that are still queer even in a "het-appearing" relationship (those that apply). You'd think all I've said would be a no-brainer but no, ppl apparently have a hard time grasping this in the communities ive been in. Even when bisexual fictional characters ARE recognized theres this constant pattern of seeing male bisexuals as solely gay meanwhile subjecting bisexual women to annoying misogynistic discourse and treating them as if they're solely straight πŸ˜… this is a lot of exposition but I do hope that you as the reader are getting what im trying to get at here and how it relates to this convo. I feel an odd sense of familiarity when I see non-mspec hcs for the dateables in this game and get kind of uncomfortable bc its very textbook "why is it impossible to see these characters as bisexual" discussion πŸ˜… and with all of the real life stereotyping that I've mentioned before this also affects my progress in discovering my own identity bc i cant help but feel ashamed at the public perception of this sexuality and apparently, other people have felt the same for similar reasons.

Again, it doesnt happen a lot but normally when someone does hc a dateable to have a binary sexuality I never see them get any backlash for it, I've even seen people go as far as to say certain dateables are "only for the girls/guys" implying that said character has a trait that makes them exclusive to a specific sexuality? Which doesnt make a lot of sense even if the statement on its own is a joke. (SPOILERS in case spoiler text doesnt work) There is literally an ending in the game involving two characters >!Abel and Dasha, can get together romantically at the end of the game. Which personally i have always found funny and ironic considering Abel gave off massive bear energy meanwhile Dasha felt very much like a Butch!<, which feels like the game is making a point to subvert your expectations and how a certain character "looking a certain way" should not be your basis on their type or sexuality, as that is not something owed based on what you choose to look like. A very pleasant message even if not intentional! I do not think a character is owed to a specific gender just bc they fit the stereotypes of a common trope or type you see!

But I think that's it for me. Hopefully this was written well enough to be understood as I wanted to get the point across without implying that my opinion is the law, which is exactly why I came to ask the question now, thanks
