How exactly does Doubletree F&B credit work?

I had a recent long stay at DoubleTree for the first time (work related). I changed to it because my previous hotel was starting to fill up with too many noisy kids in summer.

How does it work and what am I missing?

At check in, I was told the credit can be used for dinner or breakfast. Each cycle is from dinner to breakfast, ending 10 am. Restaurant closed for lunch.

On second day, I asked to clarify and they said credit cycle goes from 4pm to 11am. So I could conceivably have breakfast and then dinner, and skip next breakfast.

On third day, I had breakfast but then was going to spend a night out of town. So I asked if I could use that night/morning credit on pantry stuff since I wouldn’t be there for dinner or breakfast. The employee said it’s one set of credit per night, so I could theoretically use it any time. She manually posted my credit early (I bought a tin of “fresh” cookies, which were stale).

At the end of the week, I had to leave the afternoon before checkout day. I had an early flight 2h away and did not want to morning traffic, so I drove out the day before. I asked if I could use the last night/morning credit early. The employee who helped me do it before was busy, so I spoke to someone else who said not possible. The manager standing next to him said it’s fine because she will post it at check out. So I made my purchase and left.

I got my folio the next morning and was charged for the pantry purchase yesterday. I called and the guy said because breakfast that day, the pantry item doesn’t apply. But only 6 credits posted for 7 nights, so what happened to the last credit? But this guy said once per 24h ending midnight.

What am I missing??? Why have I gotten a different answer each day? If it resets at midnight, does that mean someone staying 3 nights can have 4 meals— dinner on day 1 and then 3 breakfasts? Why is this so confusing?

I wish I wasn’t so deep into Hilton already or I’d switch brands. There’s no Hyatt in that city. I considered Marriott but I’d be building status from scratch and I’d prefer Hyatt to be the next chain I start with. I’m at about 80 nights.
