Based on our situation should I attempt to apply for IHSS for my 7 yo ASD daughter?

Hey everyone, for a long time I haven’t really considered applying for IHSS as I have always heard how difficult it is to qualify. However the supervision my daughter requires at home and out in the community has significantly increased. She is 7 years old with a level 2 diagnosis and is minimally verbal. It’s mostly echolalia. Although we do not have many instances of elopement, there are many other safety concerns we have to navigate. One of the biggest factors at play here is that she often does not sleep and therefore I am having to be up most of the night supervising since some of her most dangerous behaviors happen during this time. She seeks food constantly and although I have child locks on my refrigerator, freezer, and cabinet she frequently breaks them off. She will often go for foods that are not safe to eat such as frozen chicken nuggets and frozen fish stick. She will on occasion get sick from this.. She will also run with food in her mouth which is a choking hazard. Same with drink, she will run with cheeks full of drink. She will also sometimes try to climb refrigerator shelves to get items of food she sees on top shelf. She is also very hyperactive especially at night and runs into walls and recently got a black eye from running straight into a corner. We have tried melatonin and the only thing it will do is help her initially fall asleep but it backfires as she tends to wake only 2-3 hours after falling asleep. I have an upcoming Dr appointment where I will be seeking a referral to a specialist to solve sleep issues. Her issues with sleep has caused soooo many absences and tardies. When outside she will not typically run into the street unless she thinks someone is playing a game with her in which she will take off. The thing is it hard to tell what makes her think she’s playing a game. She wil randomly start to laugh and walk faster and then when we try to get near it starts a domino affect of her running faster to get away thinking we are playing a game. Here’s the thing, at school her independence has improved this year a lot with toileting, but we are not seeing the same thing at home. I have been told that she walks to and from the restroom on her own unless she has a bowel movement then she needs helping. At home she will not attempt to wipe herself at all or even pull up her underwear. I do believe this has to do with the fact that she does not do a thorough job herself and has pee stains when she comes home. Her iep states “Behavior is not an area of concern right now as she does not display any impulsive, aggressive or challenging behaviors. She can be repetitive with her actions and is usually seeking attention from her teachers. She has shown great progress in eloping from the classroom. At the beginning of the school year, she would elope from an area where she was supposed to be in and would wander around the school. Now, she is very independent and can get to places on her own, like the classroom, cafeteria and restroom” As absolutely over the moon as I am about her progress in school, she definitely is impulsive at home. Additionally there was an instance 5 months back where I was at the school for an award for my oldest daughter and witnessed my ASD daughter running up the bleachers where the assembly was and sit next to a random family with no notice from any of her teachers or paraeducators. We had to call her over to us to keep an eye on her and then walk her back to her paraeducator who looked pretty nervous after the assembly ended. This whole incident went on for well over 10 minutes. Had we not intervened she could have easily walked off campus with another family without anyone noticing. I documented this and have this correspondence saved. Additionally, I had tried to go back to work this last year but we needed to have after school care for my daughter. Originally the after school program said they could accommodate my daughters needs but she kept refusing to participate in the program and instead would elope to the front office where she remained the entire time. It took months for them to admit that they couldn’t keep her in the program because she was disrupting office staff. I know the office ladies loved her and tried as long as they could but it was not their job to supervise at all so I don’t blame them. Finally, at home we consistently notice her hit her chin and mouth area with the palm of her hand. This is a stim and she does this regardless of feeling happy, sad, or angry. Only on a few occasions has this resulted in some light bruising. I guess I’m just wondering if we have options at this point for anything. I feel like I can’t work because of the number of absences and the fact that I am up all night caring for her and supervising her. There has to be an option out there for us right? I’m sorry I hope this doesn’t come off as me complaining. My daughter is such a happy and sweet ball of energy and we love her so much. In fact it’s because of this that I often downplay the hard times and difficult behaviors because I try to focus on the positives. But we can’t continue with our current arrangement right now as we are only living off my husbands income and it’s becoming quite difficult.
