How common are cults in this teapot of ours

Question

I don't know why, but I feel this strange longing to join a cult at some point in my life, not forever, just for a while. And I don’t mean the dangerous or manipulative kind, but rather one of those off-grid, self-sustaining communities where people disconnect from the modern world. A place where life slows down, where we live close to nature, follow strange but oddly comforting routines, and exist within a tight-knit group that's guided by some eccentric philosophy or ideal.
