So I have four tiels and two eastern rozellas for about a year now.
I am loving every second with them.
Watching them being silly or just being birds.
This summer however my tiels decided to get busy and started nesting.
I planned this and started looking for good nest boxes to keep their nests in.
Finding one they liked was a bit harder than expected.
I went through a few different houses and blocks, but noooo they all settled for the Rozella-sized nesting box.
Which as you guess started the wor of the box.
Not like there were other perfectly good boxes like everywhere in my aviary.
I think my birds heard me say go big or go home that one time and they where like Yes.
After all that we got some heart-stopping moments with stealing each other's nests.
With eggs, and breaking each other's eggs
Which I could not be mad about they all wanted the best start for their young. And males taking out the competition guarantees that.
This showed and taught me that I needed to give them more food in abundance, so they don't feel like they need to compete for food for their young.
Sometimes I thought it was going to be all for nothing tho
When eventually my female Rozella decides to breed in an empty nest.
One of my tiel couples is losing their eggs and having to restart all over.
Where my second couple was silently taking care of their eggs.
Which I was not aware of at that time with all the losses.
A few weeks later however I heard chirps somewhere in one of my tiel nestes.
Meaning that there was at least one chick alive.
And a few days later a second one which again I was not aware of since I no longer open nests to look in not wanting to disturb them too much.
However, I did hear a difference between the two chicks and had to look inside to confirm my suspicion. And there were two naked pink chickens.
And now we are here.
My chicks are now about 4 weeks old give or take and nearly ready to leave the cozy home their parents fought so hard to raise them in.
I am proud of my birdies and myself for getting this far.🥰
