Agent frustrations

I've read the FAQ & Rules

Sorry for the vent. SAG actor based in LA here. I’ve been signed to this boutique agency for about a year now. The volume of opportunities hasn’t been that great (4 auditions and 1 costar booking in 14 months) but I also know that a lot of this could be due to the current climate of the industry and I have chosen to not dwell on that. But I had a recent situation come up that has me a little baffled.

So my agent calls me at the end of last month to say I was “referred” for a role in an activation happening at a major comic book convention this Summer (I’d rather not put in writing which one it is - but let’s just say it’s THE one). I’m like “Great - work’s slow, I’m available, does it include travel, lodging…Yada yada.” I send her clips of various immersive performances/live activations I’ve done to forward over to their team and she calls me the next day…

She goes on to tell me I’m booked, breaks down the day rate, travel dates, per diem, all that - which was much more generous than I’d expected! So she asks me to hold 6 days (2 for travel) and even goes on to tell me how she “fought for me” and my day rate, etc. says to keep an eye out for further info…

A week goes by - nothing. I give it a few more days and finally text to follow up, which she replies: “I was just about to write to you. They’re having budget issues - they’re reworking everything and will let me know.”

I give it another week - still nothing - so I follow up again to confirm that I’m still held for these dates. She replies: “I’ll reach out again, but don’t hold anything. If they figure it out and you’re available, great!”

…I’m sorry? So this went from “you’re booked” to “meh, don’t hold anything…”

I follow up yesterday after getting an avail check for one of the held dates and she’s like “still nothing, let me check.” Then when that fell thru I follow up to let her know I’m still on hold and she just responds “I’m submitting you constantly!”

WTF?

I totally get that creative teams can be terrible with communication and there could be a lot of things beyond her control if they’re not disclosing things with her. But I’m not feeling particularly keen on the way she has been communicating back to me. It feels kinda cagey? Or at the very least unprofessional.

Has anyone experienced this? Any advice on best approach to just get a straight answer? (Besides finding a new agent - I’m actively looking but it’s a tough time to assume anyone wants to add me to their roster right now).
