Uninvited my Nmom from wedding and I'm proud of myself

[Progress]

Growing up I never had a good relationship with my dad and as I got older with the help of my therapist discovered he was most likely a narcissist, and was able to go NC 4 years ago and it has been a great decision.

I knew that I didn't have a good childhood and my mom didn't protect me from things, but only in the past few years I've started really digging into it and having realizations that her best wasn't enough. She did not protect us from her bf who was abusive, made us in/out homeless and forced me to lend her money she never paid back, etc. Most recently she stole my identity to set up an utility bill, racked up almost $9k in debt, forcing me to get a lawyer to absolve myself of the debt.

I really only keep in contact because 2 of my siblings are minors and I practically raised and protected them, and even though she never responds and we see each other rarely now, I'd do anything for them.

I never thought I'd have a family. Last year I got engaged to someone that taught me what it feels like to be loved and cared about. I didn't tell my mom until months after, because I knew she'd ruin the moment. I told her she needed to make an effort (spending time together and meeting his parents) prior to the wedding or she would not be invited which she agreed to. She missed the deadline and I had to send the difficult text of uninviting her. I'm very scared I will never see my siblings again. But I feel free! I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. It is very difficult for me to hold boundaries with my mom because talking to her makes me feel like a scared kid who needs to fix everything and I was worried I'd cave.

Is it upsetting that I won't have my parents and maybe not my siblings at my wedding? Yes, and a little embarrassing. I told my fiancé I didn't want a wedding if my siblings weren't there. But I have to focus on the people who do show up for me.

I am so beyond proud of myself for holding this boundary. I am so excited to get married and be part of a loving family, and just wanted to share this win with those who may understand 🥰
