Very weird things invented for early adaptations because the early franchise was lacking in material?

I recently discovered the very first adaptation of TMNT, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness," a tabletop game released before the cartoon premiered and when the comics was only 5 issues. So a lot of the lore was made up, like the fact the Foot Clan was led by "the Council of Eight" and "The Faceless One" all above. Because Shredder was still a one off villain from the first issue at the time.
