Tablet salt in pool?

Hi everyone! I'm new here and relatively new to pools (so I'm quite a newbie).

That being said, we just installed an in-ground pool of polypropylene. We are trying out the salt chlorinator and just got compressed salt tablets. But we're in a bit of a bind, there's no bypass from the chlorinator to the pump, and it's already installed. What do we do with the salt? Should we just drop it into the pool? I'm worried that it might leave some stains on the bottom.
