Should I Stay in Atlanta with a Promotion or Move to Philadelphia with a New Opportunity? Career Advice Appreciated

Advice

Hi everyone, I’m at a career crossroads and would really appreciate your thoughts.

I’m currently based in Atlanta, working as a Business Intelligence Analyst at a financial services company. I moved here from Brazil about a year ago, and things have been going well — I’ve built strong relationships, learned a lot, and there’s even a potential path for me to step into my manager’s role in the near future if he moves on.

Recently, I was offered a position in Philadelphia, in a different business area (Data Governance). It’s technically a lateral move, but they offered me a raise plus a moving allowance to make the relocation attractive.

When I informed my current manager, he countered by matching the raise and promoting me to a Senior title, which also bumps me into a higher salary band for future increases. This promotion comes with more responsibilities and a stronger growth path within the current team — plus, I’m already well-established in Atlanta.

So now I’m stuck between:

•	Staying in Atlanta, with a promotion, a matched raise, and a clear potential to move up when my manager leaves.

•	Moving to Philadelphia, stepping into a new business area with a raise and moving allowance, but starting over in terms of internal relationships and with no immediate promotion.

A few more facts:

•	I’m 27, aiming to grow into senior leadership or management roles over the next few years.

•	Cost of living is roughly the same in both cities.

What would you do?

Has anyone faced a similar choice between betting on a known growth path versus stepping into something new with some short-term risk? I’d love to hear your experiences or advice.
