Charge and HDMI issue on ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th gen)

Question / Problem

I installed Debian Linux on my ThinkPad a few months ago and it took it upon itself to update my firmware. Ever since It will not charge properly and the hdmi out no longer works. I have done the following to attempt to resolve this. I've Reset the device, both by holding the power button and by pressing the small button under the laptop with a paperclip. Installed windows 11, and updated all of the drivers and firmware with the Lenovo app, I have bought a new charger (same problem). Nothing seems to be working. I'm hoping someone here has had a similar issue and can help me. I've noticed the side of the laptop (around the usb-c input) heats up a lot when switched on and charging, but doesn't heat up when charging the laptop in a powered off state.

Thanks in advance.
