Is it normal?

Yesterday someone rang our doorbell. We don’t have peephole so we just open the door without knowing who’s behind it. There was an old woman holding a knife and an apple and asked me if I want to buy apple. I said we have a lot already (we really have) and said maybe next time. She was so persistent and asked if I want to just taste the apple that she’s holding and she was about to cut a small piece for me. But I firmly said no and made an excuse that my niece is looking for me already so I need to close the door.

In the Philippines, my home country, vendors who do door to door selling is very normal. But yesterday was only the first time I encountered it here in Germany. And made me wonder if that’s also normal here?
