Petite runners! Need advice, encouragement, and a quick vent

I'm 4'9 (inseam 22 in) and in my early 20s. I want to get into running, and ideally like to hear your experience of when you started running until now. Even better if you are 4'9. My quick vent is that OF COURSE my future SIL (she's 5'6) told my S/O behind my back that I have short legs (ok and?) and therefore I can't run fast...whatever that means. This was said after she acted negatively when my S/O said he can run an 8 minute mile (he's above 6 ft) and suddenly brought me up out of nowhere. Everything fitness/wellness is a competition and is gatekept by her. If you know those types of people, you know. But, that's a conversation for later. Anyways, any words of encouragement against this (terrible AND unproductive) statement are so appreciated to help uplift me and the ladies in here who relate as well.

Examples of what I'm looking for...

  1. What's your pace when you started running vs now?
  2. What running program do you use to get to where you are now?
  3. What is one thing petite running beginners should know?

I'm running my first half marathon next February. I will train for that, because I simply can't go in it blind without preparation (*coughs* 5k and 10k). That said, I can definitely do a 15 min mile but never tried running without stopping or running all-out to know what my best minute mile is. Thank you, ladies!
