Suggestions and help for master bathroom renovation needed

About to renovate a master bathroom that currently has a tub/shower combo. Bathroom is 100"w x 105"d. I am definitely putting in a walk in shower and am using a tile-redi pan.

TL;DR:
walk in shower only or try to get a walk in + free standing tub
w/ walkin + tub, a dual curb pan is an option. Is it weird to have a curb along one wall in an alcove?

I have 2 options.

  1. swap the tub/shower combo with a walk-in.
    - This is easy for me to do, cost effective.
    - I have another bathoom with a tub/shower.
    - I use the tub maybe 2x a year for myself, the wife uses it maybe 10-20x a year.
    - this option negates the ability to have a tub as there's just not enough room.

  2. take out part of the closet behind the shower (I have 2 in the room), build an alcove allowing up to a 37"w x 60"pan. put in a free standing tub.
    - costs much more, requires a plumber (i've never moved drains and don't know the venting rules, etc...) and generally will take me at least double the time. Have to add a drain, and move two others.
    - soaker tub might be nice, or might collect dust. Maybe better for resale?
    - looks a bit more lux, IMO.

Looking for just general opinions between the two options, but I have some technical questions for Option 2:
* My max shower pan size is 37". 36" is ideal to give enough room for close to a 60" tub.
-- tile-redi pans that fit my space are 37"w x 48" deep, single curb or a 36"x 4*" double curb.
-- the double curb will work, but will it be weird to have a curb inside the shower?
---- glass install is a little trickier with the double curb.

This will be my first shower install... :o
