Coworker crush and my inability to read this particular situation
I’m [18 F] trying to figure out if I misinterpreted my coworker’s [M20] actions. During our time together, he initially didn’t speak much but gradually started having longer conversations with me. He became more playful and friendly, saying hello more often (I know this was just a pleasantry). Later, he broke touch barriers, such as touching my shoulder and arm, which could have been friendly or misinterpreted. When he left the job, he asked me how it felt to have the last few minutes with him. Throughout this time, I maintained a professional demeanor and never put him or myself in a situation to be judged in the workplace. I focused on my work and kept my interactions professional.
After he left the store, I texted him to say hi, and we had a conversation. He offered to reach out if I needed anything. However, instead of being cool, I asked him if the things I had noticed (mentioned above) were signs of flirting or if he was just playing around. I wasn’t one to mince words, but I could have phrased my question better. My ex who had been on and off with me for over 7 years, saw my messages and responded. After reading the conversation, he deleted the message thread and blocked the coworker before I could get an answer or apologize. I was fine with either response; I never flirted back at work due to the potential consequences.
It’s been a year since I last texted him. I found out it was blocked the other day and sent him a text with a question mark. I read it but didn’t get a reply. It’s possible that he’s moved on, and I’m not going to waste my time texting him again. I’ve never been one to resort to desperation, and it’s not something I’m willing to do.
I’m not sure if it’s worth trying to figure out what happened. I feel like I know how to handle most situations, but putting myself out there is a different matter. I’m wondering if it’s worth explaining and apologizing for what seems like a messy situation. Is it worth seeing what’s up even though he hasn’t replied? (I’m not sure if the old thread is still on his phone, containing my messages and the message that wasn’t from me.)
On a side note, I shouldn’t have asked other coworkers about their interactions with him, but I did. They had a completely different experience than I did with him. They mostly said hi and bye, but then again, he is very busy.
