I didn't know where else to ask this. Has anyone seen the 1998 Ever After movie with Drew Barrymore? Remember how Marguerite refers to Danielle as Cinderella? Why does she do that?
First off, yes it's a Cinderella adaption film and Danielle is obviously the Cinderella of the story. My confusion though is Ever After is meant to be the "real" story of Cinderella that happened before the Brothers Grimm wrote the story of Cinderella.
So it's not like anyone from the movie would've read Cinderella and that would be why Marguerite calls Danielle that name. Is Ella meant to be short for Danielle? I mean I guess since there's "elle" at the end of "Danielle." I just never would've thought to use Ella was a nickname for Danielle but I guess it makes sense.
BTW, this is not me snarking on the movie. I love the movie. It's one of my favorite Cinderella adaptions ever. Heck, it's one of my favorite movies ever in general. It's just that one little thing I was confused by.
