Considering XR150L or CRF300LS

I’m looking for a dual sport so I can explore the trails here in Missouri. I won’t be doing anything extreme, or technical. Some light trails, trips to the river and what not.

Has anyone had experience with both? Any suggestions? Would it be better to spend the extra money and get a 300?

It won’t be my one and only bike. Not planning on getting on the highway with it.
