An block to kill mobs with in my mob farm

Is there any sort of utility block that I can hook up to my mob farm to kill the mobs in place of my mob grinder? I have a sword that gets me an insane amount of xp and I was wondering if there was a way to automate my XP gain so i dont have to manually kill the mobs with the sword. I need something that kills the mobs with my sword
