51, just had mine today
I’ll be honest, I’m considered the big tough guy and I was terrified. Scared of the prep, the process, what they would find, etc. Now that it’s over, I’ll say that everyone should do it. The prep was the worst part with little sleep and dehydration from not keeping anything in for 36hours, but once at the clinic it was easy sailing. They talk you through everything, had to rest a bit because my anxiety and dehydration had my BP high. Started me with saline and then moved me to the exam room and once the sedative hit I was out until my wife and nurse were standing back in the prep room. No recall of anything.
They found 3 small polyps that they removed and the doctor said it was a necessary preventative measure to get in. I live a healthy lifestyle and eat a lot of fiber but love my red meat. He said it can happen no matter what and about 50% of his male patients have polyps to remove.
Since I had 3, they want me back in to check in 3 years instead of 10. I’m just glad it’s over and I potentially caught something early.
