Abelard’s ending

Just curious, is the new or old ways ending better for him? Or just different flavours of success?

I’ve searched Reddit, haven’t seen much beyond shock at the heretical ending, so to be clear this is a “clean” ending choice.

As I understand it, new ways he quits your service and leads his family, old ways he stays and his family continue to churn out seneschals for you?

That about sum it up? Seems like either option works well assuming you don’t botch the family quest or praise chaos?
