If my site lost traffic tomorrow, this is the process I’d follow

  1. Run a full technical audit.

Fix crawl budget issues. Cut the fat — remove irrelevant or underperforming pages.

  1. Open Google Search Console.

Go to the Indexing tab. Identify what’s not getting indexed and start cleaning it up. Sometimes the fix is as simple as a broken template or duplicate tag.

  1. Go to the Performance section.

Look at the top 20 pages that brought traffic in the last 6 months. Then pull the 20 that lost the most.

Now do a full audit on those 20 “loser” pages:

– What queries dropped? – What’s ranking above you now? – Is the content dated or thin? – Are internal links missing? – Is the schema still relevant?

Update. Improve. Link better.

Bottom line:

It’s not always about new content. Fix the old stuff. That’s usually where the biggest gains are hiding.
