Help with laptop heatsink

Tech Support

I am replacing the thermal paste, putty, and pads in my laptop and have ran into a snag. The only place pads are used are on the CPU VRMs because the heatsink doesn't have any screws over that specific part of the motherboard so the heatsink can move slightly closer and farther away from the CPU VRMs, if external pressure is applied, and therefore needs to have the sponginess of a pad. I'm replacing the pads because I noticed that the old 1mm pads weren't making contact with the CPU VRMs so I am replacing them with 1.5mm pads. They now make proper contact but the pressure against the heatsink from the pads is now causing the CPU cores to not make proper contact. The CPU side of the heatsink is held in place with spring screws and they apparently aren't applying enough force. What are my options going forward to help solve this?

Are there stronger spring screws that I can get? If so, what are the measurements I would need to find ones that fit my computer?

Can I replace the spring screws with normal screws? I know proper torque on the screws would have to then be manually done but would I have to worry about damaging the motherboard from increased pressure due to thermal expansion while using the computer? Are there any other ramifications I would have to worry about? Same measurements question.

Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you.
