Honest Review About How Most Course 6 subjects Are Taught At MIT’s Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department
I'd like to hear your honest review of most Course 6 subjects at MIT’s Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department.
According to my observation, the course staffs has to cover lot of technical content in limited amount of time while managing high course enrolment, making their job quit challenging.
Based on my limited knowledge,
-
Most courses taught in MIT need 2 semesters to be able to completely absorb them, but MIT has compressed them into one. Due to the faced paced syllabus many students find it difficult to absorb what the Professors are teaching during the lectures. -
Due to high course enrolment and limited number of TAs, it is hard for them to provide personally assistance to each and every student during office hours. -
As a consequence of point 1, during labs/assignment, many students don’t actually learn to apply the concepts taught during lectures. I’ve heard that most of the students struggle to grasp the content taught in lectures which affects their performance in labs. The TA had to check them off even though the students didn’t have any clue of what they were doing. Similarly, many students’ just regurgitate what others have written for their assignments and just have superficial knowledge. -
This lack of understanding is reflected in poor scores in Quiz’s/Exams.
My observation was based on 6.009, 6.004, 6.006/46, 6.033. I’ve observed that many students lack the solid foundation that is expected from an undergrad in spite of having the necessary aptitude, because of the above mentioned points. Many students would have a better understanding of the subject if they had self-studied the course without coming to MIT.
That said, I do think the TAs and course staff have done a commendable job, given the challenge of covering so many technical topics in a limited time.
Or maybe I don’t have the aptitude needed to succeed.
