Why is the DnD community so hostile to the idea of self-improvement?
For most games, such as chess or dota, if you are trying to improve at them, you can ask the community for advice and people will analyze your plays, tell you what exactly you're doing wrong and what exercises you can do to get better.
When it comes to DnD though, either as a DM or a player, if you ask questions like "how do I get better at roleplay" or "how do I build a consistent world", almost all answers you get are some variations of "just wing it", "just don't do it", "the important thing is that you enjoy the game" etcetera. Look, if my goal was to stay exactly the way I am, I would not be posting here asking for advice. It is so annoying trying to get advice for getting better and instead be drawn into an argument about whether you can or should get better. Is there some secret code one could say to skip that and get actual advice?
