Is Uni GoldX Card underrated
Before I get fire, I definitely agree there are a lot of better cards out there (be it amex with milestones or hdfc)
I currently hold, ICICI sapphiro, SBI Elite and UNI GoldX is the latest addition. On paper the main thing that you'd want to get this for is the zero forex and LTF. I started using the card, and it does what it says. Every other transaction gives you 1% back (as good as the other cards I have)
But there's two standouts which actually make this card feel like a pretty decent card:
- If you buy vouchers through app you get upto 5% cashback instead of 1% (Effectively becoming as good as SBI Cashback card if you purchase vouchers for Amazon,Zepto, Blinkit, BigBasket amongst others give 5%)
- Converting this into gold is pretty handy, yes you don't get direct cash (Which you could if you instead of converting into gold, buy vouchers) but you get asset, which is great if you'd like to invest on gold
- Being able to purchase Digi Gold (I believe Gold ETF and still get 2% back on that and converting that into gold seems like a pretty sweet deal as well. )
If I look at the cashback percentage, this looks like a pretty solid card as long as you purchase the vouchers (a bit roundabout way, yes, but nevertheless gives a good value)
Now the questions I have after seeing this:
- With all the above info, it seems like a pretty underrated card. If I got my calculations right, this looks like a great addition (upto 5%, convert to gold, LTF, zero forex). Am I missing something in the fine print or caveats in the entire gold conversion process (except for the variable rate of the asset)?
Would love you guys' input and views on this before sticking to the plan, because to me it seems like a pretty nice card where I could put some money every month to purchase gold, get 2% back, use it for general transactions get 5% back and put it all on gold, and given the trend with gold, down the line, it should stay pretty good value too.
